In Shadow of Solitude is a photographic installation that embodies the indistinct relationship between myself and my surroundings. Photographing landscapes I know intimately, I returned day and night to set up my large format camera and make long exposures through the darkness. In numbing cold and pitch black conditions, I was greeted with a world transformed by the shifting moonlight and clarity of the skies. What began as an aesthetic study of the land turned deeply personal through the emotional transparency I experienced in this harsh environment. The severity of the conditions forced me into a hyper alert state, from which I would emerge from each night with a renewed sense of self. I feel softened, stilled and self assured by the silence of these landscapes and my experiences within them. These photographs and their structure are a representation of this physical meditation of my exterior surroundings reflected inwards.
